For the Ladies...

I have been asked many times by my female friends what is the best way to defend themselves. Is it with pepper spray? Is it with a tazer? My answer is always the same; use the one weapon that is always available to you: your body. Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a style that is especially useful for women, because it virtually eliminates the 'strength factor', and since 99% of all attacks on women go to the ground, making the ground your element is a wise decision. I recommend the study of Gracie Brazilian Jui Jitsu to any and all women. I hope this somewhat instructional material that I have put together is useful to anyone interested in learning self-defense.

The Armbar (all they must do is be foolish enough to extend an arm to grab or punch):

The world famous Triangle Choak (a truly devastating attack! Use your attacker's own arm to make them squirm!!):

Here are some quick instructional videos:

Also, before I get into the jiu jitsu:
a great way to defend against rapists is to go straight for the eyes if you are up close. Just take both thumbs and gauge them in--as hard as you can.

If your arms are being held down and his face is close enough, ram your forehead foreward into his face.

If your legs are not being held down as he is trying to force himself, instead of spreading them out, pull them around behind his back and interlock your legs at the ankles so that they cannot be forced down so easily; in Jui-Jitsu this is called The Guard Position, and it gives you control over their body, because you can tense your thighs and pull them away from you if they are trying to strike you, or you can pull them in suddenly and elbow them in the face, or go for the eyes, etc.

Also, pepperspary doesn't always work. The bastard can either be too high to care, or is used to it. This is NOT UNCOMMON.
Don't put too much trust into this weapon, use YOUR BODY. It is the most lethal tool in an encounter such as this. USE IT.

One more thing; they say there are two things that can happen when you are attacked.
You can Fight or take Flight.
Unfortunatly, there is a third that happens all too often. It is called FREEZE.
DO NOT DO THIS.
Either Fight or Flee, depending on the situation. Obviously if you are cornered or knocked down you must fight. So do so tactfully and aggressivly, while yelling your lungs out for help the entire time.
Or FLEE.
But DO NOT FREEZE!! Do not start thinking 'Oh My GOD, my life is over!" ect, ACT.
That is vital.
Fight. Fight for your life.
Fight for your loved ones, your lover, your children, ANYTHING.

NEVER GIVE UP!!!!

....
ok, now with the gracieness...

The founder and Grandmaster of Gracie Brazilian Jui Jitsu, Hélio Gracie, obtained fame and fortune with his underground fights, utilizing his mistifying new style of grappling.

With the money that Hélio Gracie made from underground fighting, Grandmaster Gracie founded the UFC (Ultimate Fighter Championship) and challenged all the martial arts masters of the world to a duel against his weakest and youngest son: Royce Gracie, who was considered to be the only one 'weak' enough to fight on television.

Royce Gracie destroyed everyone.

The history of Gracie Jui-Jitsu is long and fruitful.

The way that it was introduced into the Army is:

A Ranger at a certain fort, was trained by one of the Gracies at a Gracie dojo. He took it with him to his squad, and used it.
He never lost.
His squad leader decided to make him teach it to the squad.
They never lost.
The platoon leader decided to teach it to the platoon.
They never lost.
Then the company adopted it.
They never lost.
Then the entire fort.
They became the best in the Army.
Then the Army adopted it.

Then it became the trademark of the new Army Combatives Program as opposed to the outdated Judo used by the Mariens or the boxing used by the Navy.

A Captain in the 2nd Ranger Battalion says it best about our Gracie Combatives program, "Our (goal) was simple: find a form of combative fighting that could complement weekly Ranger Combative training in the 2nd Ranger Battalion; a style that could be systematically taught to a 600-man Ranger Battalion; a style that would prepare them for actual hand-to-hand combat. The bottom line: find a style that clearly enhances the individual Ranger's ability to quickly destroy his opponent one-on-one in combat, while maximizing his own chances for survival. It was an hour into training at the Gracie Academy when we realized that we had found our source. This was the real thing."

A former Navy Seal Master Chief states:
"I feel that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a superior fighting system. Their locking, choking, and grappling techniques are well suited for close-quarter combat and that's perfect for Team guys..."

Gracie Combatives = Solution to Worst Case Scenarios

The Gracie Combatives course is the only defensive tactics program that effectively prepares military personnel for all the worst case scenarios they are likely to encounter while during battle. Here are some of the scenarios that are discussed in detail during the Gracie Combatives course:

The soldier needs to stand up during the fight against an aggressive enemy.
The violent enemy is attempting to strangle or punch the soldier from the full mount.
The soldier is mounted on the totally non-compliant enemy.
The soldier achieves the mount, but the enemy uses all of their strength to escape from underneath.
The soldier achieves the mount but the violent enemy rolls uncontrollably to their knees.
During a deadly force situation, the soldier's firearm malfunctions.
The uncooperative enemy tries to reach up and strangle the soldier from the bottom of the mount.
A seemingly non-threatening civilian unexpectedly attacks the soldier with punches leaving no time for the firearm to be drawn safely.
The uncooperative enemy tries to avoid arrest at all cost by staying on his/her feet.
The soldier is underneath an extremely aggressive opponent who is determined to achieve a knockout victory.
The heavier enemy achieves the top position and uses their weight to crush the smaller soldier.
The soldier is operating solo and needs to apply the handcuffs on the resistant enemy.
The enemy is on the ground but is determined to use all their power to get up and fight.
The enemy has had some grappling experience and uses the guard position to immobilize the soldier.
The enemy is able to mount the soldier but the primary mount escape technique fails.
In a deadly force situation, the soldier is underneath the violent enemy and is unable to safely draw his/her firearm.
From the top position, the violent enemy is able to get past the soldier's legs to a much more advantageous position.
The soldier is under the aggressive enemy in a crowded area and needs to safely draw his/her firearm.
During a routine conversation the seemingly cooperative enemy unexpectedly rushes the soldier immediately seeking to gain control of the firearm.
The larger enemy suddenly catches the smaller soldier in a violent headlock.
The enemy resists arrest by turning face down and hiding their hands under their torso.
During the fight the enemy's focus switches from throwing punches to getting control of the soldier's firearm.
The soldier is underneath the violent enemy and needs to stand up immediately.
Continuously Updated Program
The Gracie Combatives techniques have been taught to several thousands of soldiers over the last 15 years many of whom have had the opportunity to use the techniques in real combat. Reports submitted by these individuals give us insight as to which techniques were used most frequently so that we can then take this information and use it to update the program so that it is composed of only the most effective and commonly used techniques at any given time.

Special consideration has been given to the fact that combat gear used by the soldiers can hinder their mobility and consequently prevent them from using the techniques. Because of this, we have made numerous modifications to the original Gracie Combatives course, developed over 15 years ago, to ensure that all the techniques included in the program can be applied effectively by soldiers in combat gear. What we have realized is that although the gear can be a disadvantage some situations, in other situations it can be used to their advantage in defeating the enemy.

Bottom Line: ANYONE can learn this style of combat to immobilize a stronger/larger attacker.

Just remember;
NEVER GIVE UP!
